Therapeutic Indications:5-HTP from SOLGAR is indicated for the treatment of sleep disorders and insomnia, in the regulation of mood (depression, anxiety), in the treatment of fibromyalgia, in the relief of headaches and general pain, and in weight control.

5-HTP from SOLGAR is an amino acid extracted from the bean of Griffonia simplicifolia, which grows in Central and Western Africa. Synthesized from the essential amino acid L-tryptophan, it has the ability to pass through the blood-brain barrier, converting into serotonin, an important neurotransmitter in the regulation of pain, sleep, mood, appetite, and other nervous and brain functions.

Studies indicate that low levels of L-tryptophan in the body are the cause of the dysregulation of these referred functions.

This amino acid is found in high biological value proteins, such as meat, fish, milk and dairy products. In addition to being converted into 5-HTP, it is converted into niacin in the body, making 5-HTP a more stable precursor of serotonin. It should be noted, however, that 5-HTP is 10 to 20 times more potent than L-tryptophan.

Due to its action on serotonin levels, it helps in the treatment of depression and, in addition to improving mood, also works as a sedative. It regulates anxiety and reduces panic attacks, also acting beneficially on nightmares in children.
